While taxes rise, our Council sits on £1M7.14.00pm GMT Sat 21st Nov 2009
North Herts Council has revealed that it has more than £1,000,000 collected from developers to pay for improved local facilities that the council has not spent! Some of the money was collected more than five years ago. Liberal Democrat leader of the opposition Steve Jarvis said, "At a time when the Council is short of cash it's incredible that it is sitting on more than a million pounds that could be spent on providing new facilities for local people. What's more they are getting worse. In the past they have usually managed to spend 20% of what they collected. So far this year they have spent none at all." The Council has collected more than £1.54M from developers over the last nine years, but has managed to spend just £480,000 of this.
