County Council back Cllr Lisa Courts and appeal public inquiry decision

August 29, 2010 10:32 AM

After 4 years of constant campaigning to reduce the number of scrap metal lorries travelling to Williams yard through Bearton ward, Cllr Lisa Courts like other local residents was left shocked when the public inquiry decided in June that it would not impose any restrictions on the movement of lorries supplying the yard. The news was a major blow to everyone's efforts.

Lisa has since been contacted by Hertfordshire County Council officers and told that they are appealing the ruling, fully supporting her efforts to get something done about the issue. Lisa said "The public inquiry decision is disgraceful and I believe it is wrong. I will not stop until Bearton residents' concerns are both listened to and acted upon. It is great to see the County Council stand with both me and the residents as they continue to fight this. I have read the report and believe there are several anomalies within it that need to be clarified. I have held meetings with council officers to explore what can be done. I am particularly unhappy that World Health Organisation limits on dangerous dust levels seem to have been ignored. Local residents and I believe that the adverse environmental impact this recycling plant is causing is shocking and makes you wonder why the Environmental agency isn't doing more to protect the public."

If you would like to raise your concerns on this matter please contact Cllr Lisa Courts.
