The 2010 North Herts District Council election results were announced on Friday 7th May and there were two notable successes for Hitchin.

Cllr Lawrence Oliver retained his Hitchin Highbury ward. This means that all three councillors in Highbury are still Liberal Democrat.

Meanwhile over in Hitchin Bearton ward Lisa Courts secured a magnificent win. After several recounts she was declared the new Liberal democrat councillor, having won by 5 votes!

Both candidates were overjoyed with their results, Cllr Oliver said, "It's fantastic to win an election, but now the hard work starts. We have been entrusted with a great responsibility by local residents and will work hard for them to ensure Hitchin becomes a better place for everyone to live in."

The results were:

HITCHIN HIGHBURY

Araminta Birdsey, Labour - 480

David Leal-Bennett, Conservative - 1779
